Are You Serving Someone Else’s Passion

It’s great when you can do the “work” you love, your calling, but not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to make a real living doing what they love. And that’s where passion comes in. If you are truly passionate about what you enjoy, you will continue to do it at all cost even if it means living on the street or on someone else’s sofa. The rest of us will bite the bullet and pursue someone else’s passion (a J.O.B aka just over broke) while we’re still fighting to keep hope alive and to one day find true fulfillment in being financially rewarded while doing what we love to do. Everyone has problems, but not everyone can recognize the gifts they’ve been given. And it’s a true blessing when you can do what you love and get paid for it too.

Finding balance between the two is different for each of us, as there is a certain level of security in knowing when your paycheck will arrive and learning how to budget your bills according to when you get paid. However, the same cannot be said for an entrepreneur who’s just starting out, or who’s trying to stretch their paycheck to go beyond paying bills and to invest into starting a new business. Yet the biggest investment you’ll make in your business is your time and intellectual talent. Some of the biggest names in Hollywood have balanced starting their career while doing odd jobs and some even to the extent of being homeless. I’m not good at dropping names, but I can recall reading many bios of some of the biggest rock bands, like the Rolling Stones, and the Monkeys were simply doing what they loved to do when fate lead them to opportunity. But had they not had a twist of lucky fortune, they’d probably still be rocking out in their garage 20 years later while laboring at the local factory.  There’s alot to consider when starting a business, not just your talent to do the part that you’re good at, but finding the right network of people to make it all work. Just because you’re good at something, doesn’t mean that you can make a business out of it. A business requires more than one person to perform various functions. As a doctor or lawyer will or should have a secretary to do a lot of the daily tedious stuff for them including but not limited to making appointments, and billing. When then, do we think we can do it all ourselves. And that’s the difference between being self-employed and running your own business. Do you have what it takes to be self-employed? Are you willing to make sacrifices for your craft, your passion? Do you have a great idea and don’t know where to begin? Or do you need help setting up and running your small business?
